I am a clinical psychologist with extensive experience working with children and young people, and individuals accessing disability support services. I have enjoyed a varied career working in a number of different settings, including the disability sector, youth mental health, child protection, education and community mental health.
As well as working in the Perth metro area, I also have experience working in regional and remote communities, including the Pilbara region of WA and Cape York region of Far North Queensland. This varied experience has helped me to develop an approach that is sensitive to cultural differences, and an approach that embraces person centredness, in order to provide therapy that "makes sense" for each and every person.
Therefore, my approach to therapy is eclectic and person centred and I utilise a number of evidence informed approaches including, attachment based therapies, cognitive behavioural therapy, dialectical behaviour therapy, acceptance and commitment therapy, eye movement desensitization and reprocessing (EMDR), schema therapy and narrative, somatic, play and art based approaches.
I enjoy working systemically and believe that utilising parents and carers in therapy is essential particularly when working with younger children.
I pride myself on being approachable, warm and sensitive but also fun, and I love nothing more than using tactile resources such as art supplies, sensory resources or music to develop rapport and foster a comfortable environment where the 'work' can be done in a safe and collaborative way.
Toby is a very chilled and cruisy 9 year old Labrador. Toby has helped me in my work with children and young people for many years, and has provided the kind of comfort that only an animal can provide.
Toby loves being around adults, young people and children alike, and he loves nothing more than sitting next to you, getting a pat and having a snooze. Toby's presence is completely optional and is subject to parent/client consent.
